The CONCEPT team were delighted to play a leading role in European Researchers’ Night at NIBRT. The team took part in all three sessions at NIBRT: primary school students, secondary school students, and the public open evening.
Our talks covered two of our projects:
Can-Vas: a €10.7m collaboration led by HAON Life Sciences, working to bring a stem cell-based therapy for neonatal brain injury towards the clinic. Our role at CONCEPT is developing the analytical tests that help make sure a cell therapy is safe, consistent and good quality.
BioDesign: our work on antibody discovery, the early-stage science behind designing the next generation of biologic medicines.
Our team were also involved in fun activities for the young attendees including a game invented by our Senior Scientist Julia Serna called “Mission Precision Medicine”!
Explaining CONCEPT’s work to a non-scientific audience of all ages is challenging, but it is so important to engage with the general public and in particular the future scientists. Events like this are a reminder that the best way to get young people excited about research is to let them meet the people doing it.
The European Researchers’ Night event at NIBRT welcomed over 120 people throughout the day from local primary and secondary schools and an opening evening for the general public.
